Please Shop Local

Shopping local makes so much sense to me, I suppose I am more aware than the average shopper because I own a local small business (retail store)

It is so true that if we all strive to spend more of our $$ right here where we live, rather than send the money to China or somewhere else, we improve our own economy, lives and retail landscape.

I know many of you like to shop online, in your p.j.'s. But if you make a small effort to get out to some of the local shops (and I don't mean the big chain stores in malls) but the the small businesses that are operated by a family or even a single person....they have put their hearts & souls into creating a little oasis from the world for you to peruse.

As small business owners, we are closer to the pulse of what's happening and try our best to bring you interesting items that you might want. It's no easy task to forsee what you might be looking for but we do a pretty great job of it.

You can touch and feel, try on the clothing and look in the mirror to see if it suits your body shape and skin tone. I am always honest with my customers about what looks good on them and what is not so good.

Then, you can have your purchases wrapped and placed in a bag that you get to carry out of the store with you. And there's the getting home and unwrapping your purchases and you can feel good that you have helped to support the local economy and the people who work and live around you.

I know I'd much rather shop in quaint little independently owned shops and have personal service and conversation than to buy from a faceless online seller who is somewhere else, supporting their own agenda and economy.

Let's all try to spend just a bit more of our time & money finding things right here in our own beautiful city. Makes for a much more interesting city to be in, I think.

Happy shopping....and to all of my wonderful, loyal customers who make a point of shopping at Tattered Rose...thank you from the bottom of my heart♥

Thoughts on Wearing Black....

The colour black comes and goes in fashion, with some idiot, I mean, passionate person declaring that black is either "in" or really "out". Who cares what they say?

Black is a great colour to wear for just about any occasion, event, outing, or place. It lets the wearer stand out rather than the colour they are wearing.

Don't get me wrong, wearing colour can be beautiful, happy, and stylish.....but I prefer the quieter shades of black, charcoal and blue, with black being the forerunner (in my personal wardrobe)
I am fortunate that the colour works well with my skin tone and hair colour, which is now almost completely grown out from years of colouring....shades of grey and silver and a little bit of dark brown.

Black is precise. It is quiet. It makes a statement but not an in-your-face statement. It goes from morning to night and is rarely the wrong choice. One of the few exceptions, in my opinion, is Mother of the Bride or Groom....they shouldn't wear black unless they have been instructed to by the bride; then it's OK too.

The reason for this long-winded message from Tattered Rose, I suppose, is to let everyone know that we have a lot of beautiful black clothing, accessories & jewellery in the store right now.......in all kinds of fabrics and styles.

And it's not even Black Cat Friday.

How can t-shirts be romantic?

Tattered Rose is known for having some of the most romantic, vintage-inspired, pretty clothing around. So when we do casual (like t-shirts and tunics) in the softest of viscose jersey, there is still a touch of romance.
That's what we do and who we are....purveyors of romantic.

P.S. We just finished unpacking a wonderful collection of these viscose jersey T's, tunics and dresses...some even have lace. Garment-dyed for that lived-in, charming appeal we love so much.

Long Time No See...

Since moving over to this new blog, we haven't posted nearly as much as we used to.  Several reasons for that, but mostly just too busy with the store and designing.

Today, I was inspired to write about something from my dreams. It was about a Tattered Rose kind of shop but it was in the 1930s'. I wanted to stay there a while longer, but cats were meowing for their breakfast (in real life)

I remember a few things I saw in that dream. One was a grey rayon & lace blouse that was to die for. Another was this beautiful huge rectangular ring a woman was trying on...very similar to the ones we just got in at Tattered Rose.

I am personally very drawn to the 1920's and 1930's eras. The clothing was so beautiful and much of it could be worn today, with a few tweaks here and there.

For now, I will leave you with a few images of inspiration....remember, life goes by in a flash.  Why not wear beautiful, romantic clothing and jewellery as often as you can?

That's my motto and one I bring to everything Tattered Rose has to offer.

Urban Romantic

URBAN ROMANTIC....that's Tattered Rose. Bygone eras are subtly infused into every garment we design or purchase for the shop in a modern, urban, romantic and wearable today sort of way.
NOTE: This is not a picture from our shop but used to evoke the spirit of URBAN ROMANTICISM  at Tattered Rose
