Prairie Romance at Tattered Rose

As many of you know, Tattered Rose got it's start as a spin-off of the western store I began with in 1995, called "Way Out West".....and yes, I wore western hats now and then. I also wore cowboy boots long before I ever knew I was going to have my own shop.

I have always been drawn to the west.....I remember when I was a young girl, maybe 10 or 12 years old, wanting a fringed suede jacket so badly one summer. I found the perfect one in a store in town and tried to save the money to buy it. By the time I had saved enough, the jacket I wanted was gone.....gone with the wind.

Now that I am older and wiser and have my own shop, I STILL love fringed jackets and romantic western clothing.....and we do have that influence in Tattered Rose....even though we are not a western store. And I own a black suede fringed jacket that I never get to wear......don't know why, except that I really love the warm brown fringed jackets best and I cannot wear that colour (makes me look greenish)

This Spring, with the 70's references  everywhere, we can't help but be caught up in the excitement of the western look of that decade.....we always have it, just not as obviously as this season.

Almost everyone knows who Stevie Nicks is.......part of a band that is timeless and forever in our hearts....Fleetwood Mac.

Stevie was often at the forefront of the band, not only for her distinctive & captivating voice, but also for her wildly romantic & flamboyant gypsy style of clothing. Women wanted to be like her then and she is often talked about in Tattered Rose. Customers who walk  in tell us that Stevie Nicks would love the shop and that it evokes her style. We always consider that as the highest of compliments.

SYMPLI THE BEST: A Short Story by Tattered Rose

Sympli the Best is one of the lines we carry that requires no explanation.  Women who know the line and wear it enjoy the variety of styles, colour and styling options we present.

Tattered Rose carries one of the largest collections of Sympli but it is only a part of our repertoire. We also have funky, romantic, urban, Victorian, Gothic, Steampunk, and other vintage-inspired clothing, jewellery & accessories.

Back to the Sympli.......
We get asked why we don't have this style or that colour of Sympli and the answer is it would be almost impossible for a boutique such as TR to carry EVERY single style, colour, fit option and size that is available. That would mean we would have to have the space & money to house over 50,000 garments in the shop at any one time.....millions of dollars worth.
I certainly don't know of any store that could actually do that.

So, we choose the styles, colours and sizes that we think most suit our customer base and our philosophy.....items that will work with the rest of our clothing and or simply stand alone. Right now, we have approximately 300-350 pieces and that is quite a nice selection to choose from.

Please remember: We are always happy to order exactly what you want, in the size & colour you want. You just have be a little bit patient, as it takes 6-8 weeks for delivery on most special orders (except for the In-stock items, which are all black)

We love the Sympli the Best line......I wear it all the time in my own romantic, gypsy sort of way.

BRITISH INVASION!

Blue with faded shades of dark red and blue etc. OR Beige with faded shades of dark red & blue etc.(shown)
I wore my blue one with rolled-hem jeans and a knee-length black linen jacket today....so comfy & gorg!!!!

Changes are Afoot for Tattered Rose....

Within the next 18 months, Tattered Rose will be going through some changes.

We're not sure exactly what those changes will be yet but we do have some ideas up our sleeves and when we know, we will let you know, once everything is in place.

P.S. We are not trying to be mysterious.....it's just that we are still in the idea & planning phase.

We occasionally get calls at Tattered Rose, asking us what kind of flowers we sell. I always giggle at that one.
If we ever DID sell flowers, as in become a flower shop, this would be our style.....wild & romantic!

Tattered Roses on a Vine

Imagine you are living on a ranch somewhere in Texas....or Alberta, for that matter. Yes, that makes more sense.

You are around horses every day, go into town for supplies a few times a week, driving your old pickup truck wearing a t-shirt, jeans and boots. Your sidekick is a beautiful Golden Retriever, who likes to slobber on your clothing.....a sign of affection, I suppose.

Every now and then you get to go to a barn dance with your man, which means you might don a long ruffled skirt with one of your fancy t-shirts.

Your life is casual and that's how you like it.

And guess what? Tattered Rose (the store in Edmonton) actually HAS casual clothing...well, our version, anyway.

Got some new t-shirts & tunics in today....some with bling, some with crosses and some with roses. Dress 'em up. Dress 'em down.
