Nouveau Victorian

Tattered Rose rocks! (when we have to)
Antique-look lace layering tunic available in several colours.

There's Something About a Weeping Tree.....

I love weeping trees....from weeping cherry trees to weeping willows....they remind me of textiles like lace and tattered chiffon; two fabrics that are often incorporated into our one-of-a-kind, hand-made clothing designs found only at Tattered Rose, Edmonton, Alberta.

Fragments of Tattered Rose

There are times when someone in the store will utter the words "your store reminds me of a store in------", whatever place they name.

Only once did I ever follow up when a customer told me of a store in a small town that was exactly the same as Tattered Rose.
I made  a point of driving to that small town to see for myself, the supposed twin store of Tattered Rose. I was nervous and feared the worst: that there was another store like mine (whether by chance or on purpose). I'm sure every shop owner likes to think that they have created something unique, out of their own creativity and vision.

As I entered the small shop, I was relieved to find that it was nothing like Tattered Rose...no romantic, vintage-inspired clothing or jewellery.....no one-of-a-kind, hand-dyed clothing designs.....none of the elements that make TR special.  I can say that about my own store because I have heard it from customers thousands of times over the years.....and I am not one to toot my own horn, except in rare cases, like now. I could understand, however, why this person thought the store was like TR.....there was some clothing that had lace and they did have mannequins and other bits and pieces......certainly nice enough for their customers.

Edmonton is a city that doesn't seem to support individual boutiques very well. I have heard of so many of them closing after being open for a short time or even a long time.

So, Tattered Rose keeps plugging away, trying to offer things that no one else sells and present them in a way that no other store does.

We try and we do this all for you, our customers, past present and future.  We want to share with you our love of vintage textiles and designs.....we want to help you realize your inner dream of wearing romantic, feminine clothing. We are here to help you.....and we strive to do our very best. It is always nice when we are appreciated for our efforts................so, Thank you for your continuing support of our unique little boutique♥

Nice day for a shopping spree, yeah.

This May long weekend seems to be turning out like many other May long weekends.....not such nice weather. You can't really do any gardening or camping. It's way too windy and cold.
So now what?

There's only one thing you CAN do.....SHOP! Leave the guys at home to get that thing fixed that they've been putting off forever and go shopping. Good idea, no?

See you at Tattered Rose today, maybe.
We're open 11 am-2 pm (holiday weekend hours, of course)

Gothic Gypsy by Tattered Rose

As much as Tattered Rose is known for its romantic styles and pretty colours, we like to juxtapose that with an edgier style too....lots of black clothing, belts, scarves and jewellery for those who lean more towards a Gothic influence.......♥

Child of the Universe

The other day, a family came into Tattered Rose for the first time...a Mom & Dad and their daughter, who was about 9 years old.

The fact that I am still thinking about this little girl shows what an impact she had on me...hers was the soul of someone who seemed to have lived decades more than her age (or maybe lived in another time)

She was articulate, mature in an innocent, childlike way and she loved the store. She gently pointed out to her parents items of clothing and art that she found particularly beautiful. Her eyes glanced around the store, soaking up every inch of it and enjoying just being there. It made my heart feel so happy to see this child "get" what my shop is about.

I found myself talking to her more than her parents because she is one of those "old soul" children you come across now and then who you just want to know better because they are so interesting.
I am certain that if Tattered Rose is still here when she is a young woman buying her wardrobe, she will be shopping in my store because she will remember how it made her feel when she was in as a little girl.

I love children like that....almost makes me wish I had a daughter or two.
