Grad Season is Upon Us......

Recently, we have had quite a number of grads come into the shop, looking for "the" dress.

Finding the perfect dress to represent yourself at your Grad dance can be a daunting task, especially when you are not sure what you are looking for.

It's usually a good idea to bring your Mom and maybe one friend. More than that and you can get more confused by differing opinions than is necessary.

Then you try on several outfits and/or dresses and put on a mini fashion show for those waiting outside of the changeroom. More than likely, at least one thing will stand out as potentially being "the" dress for your Grad dance.

Good luck grads....happy dress shopping.

From Tattered Rose, with love.

Making our lives a little brighter......

With all of the harsh reality in the world, from what we hear about on the news to what we go through in our daily lives, nothing is more important than loving and being loved....not one thing.

BUT, in everyone's life, there should be something extra that brings you a bit of happiness. It could be your pets....it could be that new art class you started....it could be a group you joined or just spending time with your family.

That is all well and good but there is something to be said for retail therapy. They don't call it that for nothing.

On that note and for all of you fans of beautiful things to wear, we have just received a new shipment from Magnolia Pearl. We are gobsmacked!

New clothing in the middle of winter. That works for me in helping to take away the winter blues. That and my 3 cats and lunch with a dear friend.♥

Winter Survival Mode~Building Dreams

I don't know about you, but I am finding this extremely cold weather a bit hard to take....especially considering what a long-g-g-g cold spell we are having.

How do I personally get through this rough patch of winter weather? Well, let me tell you...

1. Never stop dreaming...thinking of new ways to bring beauty to my shop and my world. Just because the temperatures are frigid, that doesn't mean my brain has to be frozen.

2. Get indoor projects done that I have been procrastinating.....both in my home and in the shop. The store has never looked lovelier, if I do say so myself. We have added a new feature in our sale area too: a $10 suitcase and a $25 suitcase, both filled with items that for one reason or another haven't sold yet...including garments that are over $300 (for $25!!)

3. Hibernate a little.....I have been binge-watching all 8 seasons of Bewitched, one of my favourite television series of all time. It helps me to escape thoughts of cold and winter and I always loved Elizabeth Montgomery in that role of Samantha, the witch.

We have a new shipment of Magnolia Pearl coming to tide us over until Spring officially arrives.

Building dreams.....and your wardrobe. What a great way to spend the winter if you can't get away for 5 months.

Inspired by Little Women

As a clothing designer, I am inspired daily by seemingly minor details, shapes, images and of course, movies.

The day after New Year's day, even though I was still not feeling 100% after my bout with a nasty flu, I dragged myself out to see the latest version of "Little Women"......a story originally written by Louisa May Alcott in 1869. It is a rich and intricate story about 4 sisters living with their Mother during a time of strife.

I loved the clothing they wore in the movie, with each sister having her own unique style. The spunky writer, Jo, was the most like Tattered Rose, with her long skirts and fem-masculine style long jackets....I found myself re-imagining how garments we already have in the store could be put together in ways that Jo would wear them.

Stay tuned for more of our cross between Victorian Gypsy and Prairie Girl Writer inspired outfits and items.
