UPDATE from Tattered Rose

During the shutdown of our brick and mortar store, we are trying really hard to stay the course until we can open again and things can get back to some sense of normalcy.

It seems inappropriate, somehow, to be talking about our shop or selling goods while the world is in utter chaos and shutdown....but this isn't about being insensitive to what is happening in the world due to the devastation of COVID-19.

It IS about the possibility that my store, my hopes, dreams and only source of income may not survive this storm. This is personal; it's not merely about business. I have always maintained that motto, way before the Corona virus......that Tattered Rose is about connecting with people, helping them, and making friends along the way.

While I DO need to make a living, it is the personal aspect of my shop that means the most to me...always has, hopefully, always will. I miss my customers and friends more than I can say.

Please understand that if I post pictures of clothing and other items I have for sale at Tattered Rose, I am just doing my best to stay motivated and encouraged. I have do do something, or at least go down fighting until the Universe tells me it's time to let it go.

I truly hope it doesn't come to that because I would make a terrible employee after all these years of working for myself.

Sending prayers and caring thoughts to everyone in the world. We are in this together, even though some may be suffering more than others. Stay safe by staying home as much as possible.

See you on the other side if that's what is meant to be.

We're Closing....

Tattered Rose will be closed starting Thursday, March 19, 2020 for a little while.

We are following the "Stay at Home" advice from the government which is supposed to aid in mitigating the spread of the Corona virus.

In the meantime, please stay safe, informed and be careful but above all, enjoy this time with your family. Find new ways to live that keep you and your loved ones as safe as possible.

We hope this helps.

Love,

Carol
Tattered Rose

P.S. We are trying to find ways to keep the shop going via the Internet so please stay tuned for news regarding that.

We are available for phone orders and payments too.

Update on Tattered Rose

Tattered Rose will be open today from 11 am to 4 pm. We will continue to have measures in place to make it as safe as possible for any customers who choose to shop in our store.

-Hand sanitizer at the entrance
-Sanitized doors, counters, Interac machine, doorknobs, mirrors, etc.

Please keep in mind that Tattered Rose is not a place where crowds gather. We have at most 2 or 3 people in the store at any given time...and recently even less than that, so it is a much safer place to be than a highly public place where hundreds of people visit on a daily basis.

We do not feel that it is necessary to close the store at this time but if pressure from the outside builds, or if our customers are too fearful to come in, then we will have to make some tough choices. We sincerely hope it doesn't come to that.

Keeping you informed and safe is our number one priority.

Please try not to panic.....be cautious and careful, remain diligent about safety measures to reduce your risk but please don't stop living life as fully as possible during this difficult time.

We care about our customers. Let's get through this together.

Keeping Tattered Rose Safe for Our Customers

Starting Wednesday, March 18th we will be offering hand sanitizer at the door as you enter our shop. This will help keep the store safe for all of our customers.

We will also be cleaning (as often as necessary) any surfaces such as doors, counters, etc.

Tattered Rose is dedicated to keeping our shop as safe as possible. There are no large crowds in the store so please feel free to visit as usual, with a few precautions in place (such as hand sanitizers)

We must try not to panic in the wake of Covid-19
Be informed/aware, careful and cautious, but continue living your life as much as possible.

Of course, if you have any symptoms of the virus or have returned from a trip or been in contact with anyone who has travelled, please take the proper steps to be safe for yourself and for anyone who is around you.

Addressing the Virus Pandemic

It seems (to me) that there is always something scary we are facing....and the media is part of the scariest thing about that. In my own efforts to feel happy, I avoid watching the news to any great extent. I am aware of enough things going on, thanks to Facebook and the people in my life, but I do not need to know every bad thing that is going on the world for fear that I will never feel happy again.

My thoughts are that much of what the media reports is the worst of the worst news....bad things that happen to people, animals. They want your attention and it seems that negative news gets much more attention than good news.

And then, along comes the Corona virus....and the world is in panic mode.

It is impossible to escape the fear and panic spreading around the world. Everywhere you turn, it is there being talked about, warned about, and we are constantly being bombarded with new, scary information about countries where the virus is rampant.

Then you hear about the people who are hoarding basic necessities such as toilet paper, to name one. This creates panic in even the most logical, calm people because it makes you feel like you had better jump on the bandwagon and stock up on anything you can get your hands on....except for toilet paper. There is none to be found in any of the stores I have been to....and I am not there to hoard it, merely to buy some.

Panic is happening around the world and I, for one, am trying very hard not to all into that trap. I don't want to shut myself in my home until this thing passes. So I choose to carry on with life and business, just being a bit more careful that usual.

This is a serious matter but it doesn't have to shut down the whole world.
Stay away from big crowds.
Wash your hands diligently, especially after being out in public and before you touch your face.
Be cautious and careful but don't let this thing take away every moment of happiness that life has to offer.

I wish I could say we are all in this together but there are those, like the hoarders of essentials like hand sanitizer and TP, who are in it for themselves and/or to profit from the fear of others.

For the rest of us who are reasonable, caring human beings.....carry on carefully but please don't let unreasonable fear take hold of you.

As far as Tattered Rose the bricks and mortar store.....we will be extra diligent in cleaning the front door, counters, and any other surfaces that might be touched by customers. We want you to feel safe and calm.

On that note.....because the store is closed today, I am going to give my cats a hug, listen to one more song on YouTube and then get out there to take care of business. Then, later, I will have a cat nap and get some things done around the house. In other words, carry on as usual with a bit more care and diligence.

Stay safe...........♥

Insight Into the Owner of Tattered Rose

(This is a very old blog entry from my old blog that I have copied and pasted)

It comes up every now and then....the fact that Tattered Rose is unlike most other stores and boutiques that sell clothing & jewellery for women....this is not about vanity on my part...it is merely the way things are because it is the way I wanted it to be if I owned a shop...it had to be different.

Being a middle child in a family of 5 children sometimes means that you are lost in the shuffle, and so you find ways to be noticed. Some middle children will do bad things because any kind of attention is better than no attention.

For me, it was about seeking admiration from others, usually my parents or big sister, of what I created...whether it was a drawing or a piece of clothing or the way I displayed the items on my Mom's dresser.  I needed to have someone I cared about tell me "that is great, dear" because it meant I was more than just the 3rd child, lost somewhere in the middle.

The other thing for me, was of course making people laugh.  I was a goofball before I even knew what it meant to be a goofball. I just knew that if people were laughing at my antics, I was getting attention and perhaps making someone else happy for a moment...not that I needed or wanted to be the centre of attention all the time, in fact far from it.

Most of the time, I quietly went about my day of finding things to do....like drawing new clothing designs for my paper dolls (do they still have those cut out paper dolls?) or making something, even if it was a mud pie...yes, literally mud...all dressed up with rocks and cattails...or taking photographs of anything that wasn't moving too much (dolls, cats, horses, my little brother)or it could be a dress I hand sewed for one of my dolls.

So, many years later, when it came time for me to have my own store, it had to be different and it had to be part of me and what I loved.  Tattered Rose IS me...it is the things I love to own, the clothing I love to wear and it is about helping other women find themselves in the clothing sold in my shop....and I am there to help them with that mission to the best of my ability. If you share part of your own story during that time...well, that's part of it too.

Therefore, next time you visit Tattered Rose, please know that it is not only about making money....it is much more personal than that.  I want to share my knowledge and sense of style with my wonderful customers and have you walk away owning the type of clothing that makes YOU look your best....from colour to silhouette to style.

So, yeah....Tattered Rose is about a lifestyle...most of our clothing never goes out of style....it becomes YOUR style.

We are OPEN today!

Tattered Rose is open today from 11 am to 3 pm.
