Dusty Colours We Adore

Dusty, murky colours are sometimes a mystery to those who observe them. This is due to the vagueness of colour....difficult to describe, almost like it isn't really one colour but several mixed into one muted shade of beauty that you just don't see in most stores.

We love these murky colours at Tattered Rose and have come to realize that not everyone can wear them (near their faces) But when someone can, it is a thing of pure joy to behold.

Dusty rose...murky lavender....softest dusty green.....faded burgundy.....mystic blue.....ghostly grey. These are some of the "colours" we are talking about and have always carried in the shop.

I think the description of "dusty" refers to the fact that these ordinary colours have been tinged with grey and faded to perfection creating the softest, most subtle and somewhat indescribable of colours.

Shades of Grey

In addition to reds, burgundy, green and black  for Transition/Fall 2020, we will also have a wonderful selection of grey clothing..............we adore grey!

The Colours are Rich for Fall 2020

Red, burgundy, merlot, garnet, dark red......we are loving the dynamic appeal of shades of red for Fall 2020. 

But no worries if you are not a fan of red....that's just one aspect....we are working on shades of black and more black.....grey, green and deep blue.

Something Wickedly Beautiful This Way Comes...

These are weird times for many of us. We have just started to come out of hiding after being isolated for months due to COVID-19, not being able to meet with friends, gather for social events, or even go shopping at our favourite boutiques.

Tattered Rose, like many other retail shops, was able to re-open on May14th. Slowly, one by one, our customers have begun to visit our store and to shop. It has been so great to see and talk to our customers again and to help them find the right clothing and accessories to wear....and to share stories and interests.

A few of our Spring orders were cancelled (for obvious reasons) but we still have some lovely items that will work for the season at hand. Grizas and Magnolia Pearl are like eye candy in natural fibres like linen and cotton to adorn your body.

And while we love Spring and Summer, we are now looking ahead to that wondrous transition into the cooler weather that is coming in a while. This is when we can layer to our hearts heart content....and wear sweaters and duster coats without being asked why we are wearing so much clothing.

Our recent photo shoot with a beautiful young woman and friend, Tanjeryne (singer, model, artist, yoga instructor, muse) was so much fun. She has a way of melting into each different pose like a seasoned pro (model) and makes our clothing look even more incredible.

The colours we chose for the shoot were black, grey and burgundy. These colours will form part of our transition/fall look and we will have other colours for Fall 2020 too....but we are not going to lie: this will be a season of lots of BLACK!

We will be closed for Canada Day but please visit us soon, if you can. Regular store hours are:  Wed to Fri 11-4 and Sat 11-3.

The Dark Side vs The Bright Side

I know I am not alone in wearing mostly black clothing.....often to the confusion of some of my friends/family who prefer brighter or lighter colours.

"Why don't you wear some colour?" or "Why are you always wearing black?" they might ask...or think. Yes, I can hear their thoughts as they peruse my head-to-toe outfit of black with their eyes.

Because in wearing black (or dark grey) I feel safe and almost incognito.

Because when I choose to wear dark colours, I can just be me.

Because black goes anywhere....from work to evenings out. 

Because dark colours like black are just easier.

Because I love black and grey...not just in my clothing but also my cats, my vehicle and my footwear.

I admire those who wear colour like they own their space. They are confident and brave. They light up the world and usually have an engaging personality to match.

My bravery and confidence comes and goes.....wearing black balances everything out for me. It is consistent and never disappoints. Sometimes I am outgoing and fun but there's the other side too...the quiet, introspective nature of my personality. Dark colours like black suit that.

Luckily, Tattered Rose has lots of colour, from muted to almost bright. Never garish bright. Just pretty bright.

Luckily as well...we have lots of dark and black clothing for those who wish to express themselves that way....me included.
