Shades of Grey

Grey is the colour of skies when it is about to rain. It is a quiet colour but beautiful at the same time.
It goes with many other colours that you may have in your wardrobe.
Grey is timeless.

Shades of Grey......NEW ARRIVALS for early transition.

Don't worry...these greys can be worn now and into Fall and beyond.

In love with grey

What's Next for Tattered Rose?

Yes, we have used this image before but it seems more relevant now than before.

For the upcoming season, there will be a lot of black, grey, burgundy, deep  green and dark red....with maybe a little midnight blue thrown in.

We will be doing a photo shoot in the Fall to best show our new look....which really is our old look, just revamped to reflect where we are at the moment.

Remember to think GREY & BLACK...or at least be open to the possibilities...especially when paired with other colours.

Please come along for the adventure

Edmonton Boutiques

Let's face it....the Internet is here to stay but there will always be a place for bricks & mortar shops like Tattered Rose and here's why:

Human beings love to use their senses when shopping. To feel the fabrics, see the visual impact of a store and the creative use of displays, to smell the lovely aroma of honey-almond soap, to hear the varied music playing in the background and finally to try on the clothing in person...in front of a mirror. These are things you just cannot get from online shopping, except for maybe the music and the soap.

The human experience of interacting with another person, one who is there like a friend letting you know how something looks on you....receiving instant feedback, talking about stuff, having a laugh, sharing experiences.....and then having your purchase beautiful wrapped up while still chatting about how many cats you each have...these are some of the reasons that retail therapy in a real boutique, with real clothing and real mannequins wearing the clothing, inspiring you to be who you really want to be will always outshine online, impersonal shopping.

If it makes you feel better to shop in your p.j.'s then by all means wear them into the store. If you want to drink your coffee or tea while you shop, then bring it to Tattered Rose and one for the owner too. Sip while you shop. Chat while you try on. Laugh and connect to a real live person who genuinely cares about her customers.

You will be pleasantly surprised to see how much fun retail therapy can be in person if you haven't done that in a while or ever.

So come into the shop. Our hours are short & sweet:

Wednesday to Friday  11 am to 4 pm and Saturday 11 am to 3 pm

Why such short hours? We have living to do too, including laundry and spending time with 4 cats at home. Plus, we designs and make new clothing for the shop...things you will never find online or even in any other store because they are exclusive to Tattered Rose.

Be daring....come shop in person.

Friday 2 June 2017

It's Friday....let's chat.

Before I opened my first store, I knew that I wanted it to be different from any other store; otherwise, why bother?

And so, from the mid 1990's until today, everything has been geared towards that end...sometimes intentional, sometimes not....it just happens because my store is always an extension of myself, my likes and design aesthetic. I can't help that.

Tattered Rose is unlike any other shop I have been into. It's not for everyone and I am certainly not to everyone's taste. I am a goofball at times. I take my business and customers very seriously but I always like to inject a bit of humour into everything I do in the shop and for my business because THAT is who I am.

I am opinionated. If I love something you are trying on, I may gasp with delight and an "Oh my Gawd!". Conversely, if something doesn't look the best on you, I will tell you so, whether it is the colour or style or something else. I must be honest. It is how I operate my life and my business and the two are forever intertwined.

If a business isn't personal, it is not my kind of business.
The clothing we sell at Tattered Rose is meaningful. Sure, I got sidetracked by trying to being in less expensive clothing but that's not where my heart is.

I want the clothing in the shop to evoke a memory of times gone by but still relevant for today....to be meaningful to each customer who buys a piece of clothing because it is SO them.

The displays, colours and textures must be a feast for the eyes and the touch of the hand. It must make you feel like the most romantic version of yourself. Don't be afraid to be different from others if it feels right in your heart. You can never go wrong that way.

On that note, I say "see you soon" because if you were in the shop recently, I look forward to seeing you again...to share my vision of beauty with you because we will always have that in common.

If you haven't been in for a while, I probably miss you more than you know....and it's not about the money. I miss talking to you and sharing a laugh or two, hearing your stories or learning something new from you. I worry about my customers.....really, I do.

It's NOT just business for me...it is very personal.

Thank you to all of our customers: past, present & future.

With love,
Tattered Rose

The URBAN TRENCH COAT from Tattered Rose

The "Urban Trench" coat in linen. Is it a coat? Is it a coatdress? Is it a duster? YES, it is.
We have a small re-order of the black coming in soon. Black was the first to sell out within nanoseconds, it seemed.

I own a black one (of course) and wear it so often, I'm afraid it will wear out. You know how you have one of the those favourite items in your wardrobe that you keep reaching for because you feel great when you wear it? And then one day, it wears out? That will be this coat for me.

Wear it with jeans, dresses, skirts....such a cool, feminine silhouette with just enough fullness at the midi length hemline and just the right amount of waist cinching to make Humphrey Bogart jealous.....remember, he often wore a trench coat in his movies when he was playing Sam Spade, the detective.

But this ain't no manly coat.....it's definitely for a woman.
