New Vintage Lovelies in the Shop!

A gorgeous shade of green, this lovely 1940's vintage slip....to be worn as a dress over leggings or skinny jeans.

More items just arrived in the shop..............

Coveralls.....or what ever you want to call them.

The latest trend in fashion is what we used to call "coveralls" or "work suits" back in the last century.

Apparently, they are now called "Boiler suits"....taken from the name of the clothing worn by those who service the boilers in boiler rooms.

These are not your every day jumpsuits. No...they are beyond jumpsuits because they are the uniforms that were once worn by people, mostly men, who were mechanics, did service oriented work and/or worked on equipment.

These "new" fashionable coveralls, boiler suits, work suits are based on those uniforms that were once strictly utilitarian, and I think they look a bit out of place as they are shown now, with modern heels and bags.

But I really had to laugh, as I recalled ordering such a work suit from the Sears catalogue back in the 1970's.  (That's me in the older photo) It was an army green one piece suit made of thick cotton fabric and was then, only available in men's sizes. They were not cut for a woman's body and were quite squarish and cumbersome, with a crotch that hung down somewhere around my mid thighs....which is why I am trying to hold the extra fabric up with my hands on my waist. I actually remember posing for this picture!

So there I am, posing like I am about to go on a flying tour of the world, atop our picnic table. Oh, the ideas I had in my head as a budding designer. I was often laughed at for my ideas as I would have been had these coveralls actually fit me and had I worn them out in public. But they were much too large and were returned...but not before having my brother snap a few pictures of me in them.

It is 2019...and these coveralls, boiler suits or what ever you call them, are at the forefront of a fashion trend that will surely burn out before too long......at least, I hope so.

Tattered Rose vs Pantone

Tattered Rose the bricks and mortar shop located near downtown Edmonton, has been trying for years and years to bring the colour pink to the foreground......in our clothing, jewellery, accessories and home decor.

We love all shades of pink from blush to fuchsia. It is one of the prettiest, most romantic & most feminine of colours and lends itself to every aspect of you and your home.

This year is no exception as we have some very pretty pink options for you to consider. One of them is this pretty blush pink ruffled throw.

Pantone has declared "living coral" as this year's colour. As we've already written in an earlier blog post, we DO have a variety of coral colour options in our clothing and accessories but we are really loving pink this year too!

Your choice: coral or pink.

Sid Dickens Memory Blocks (Tiles)

Tattered Rose is pleased to announce that we will once again be an official Sid Dickens retailer.

When we were located in Winnipeg, we carried them in our shop from 1999 until we closed that TR store in 2006 to move further out west. We assumed that the line would follow us to our new store in Edmonton but that was, sadly, not the case. Our shop was too close in proximity to another Sid Dickens retailer, so we could no longer carry them.....until now.

We do still have some of the older memory blocks in stock but we are excited about the new tiles coming in March! The beauty of these hand made tiles is beyond compare and they fit so well with our romantic, bohemian vibe.

Stay tuned for news about their arrival at Tattered Rose
